You Caught Us At A Strange Time- Life During Lockdown

Photobook of the project now available via the “Bookshop” tab above

On the 23rd March, the UK entered it’s first nationwide lockdown. Everything stopped overnight- people were told to work from home and everyone was restricted to only one hour a day outside. Things we had always taken for granted suddenly become something to consider and plan. Despite this, daily life had to continue- people ran out of milk, dogs needed walking…

Getting very bored very quickly myself, I set up a wooden backdrop in my front yard and asked passers-by to stop for a moment and have their portrait taken (from five metres away…). I wanted to capture everyday life still carrying on, albeit during these strange and difficult times. I asked everyone to email me with their experiences of living under lockdown to add to the project. I ran the project a second time during the November/ December lockdown, and finally for the third national lockdown (Jan-March 2021).

Thanks to everyone who has taken part. Please click on any labelled portrait for a larger version and to read their story.
